| The Whitpain Township Open Space Plan adopted in December 1995 identifies township owned open space and parkland. Below is a list of the Township active parks, passive parks and open space parcel currently identified as part of the Whitpain Township Park System. Parks designated as active have numerous activity-based facilities for both children and adults which can include playground equipment, ball fields, courts, concessions/bathrooms, etc. Youll find our passive parks designed to promote the quiet leisure of walking and bird watching. Amenities are usually limited to trash recepticals, bench seating, and, at some locations, a designated walking path.
Wentz Run Park (49.8 acres - Active) 1000 Anvil Lane - directly behind Whitpain Township Admin. Building

A multi-purpose family park opened to the public in April of 1995. This park has become the focal point of many special events and activities as well as the home for our Township youth athletic programs and adult softball league. A fully equipped concession stand and picnic pavilion are open from April through October. Other amenities at Wentz Run Park include a Gazebo, 4 Tennis Courts, 2 Basketball Courts, Sand Volleyball Court, 2 Soccer Fields, 3 Baseball Fields, Playgrounds age 3-12, Picnic Pavilion, Multipurpose Athletic Field, 2 Horseshoe Pits, 1.75 mile exercise trail and a Concession Stand.
Residents and businesses interested in reserving facilities at the park do so by obtaining a permit from Parks and Recreation office. This permit can be downloaded from our Forms, Applications, & Permits
section of the website. Permits will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis for times not occupied by Township and youth organization activities. Information on fees, rules and rental procedures is available at the Parks and Recreation Office.
West Side Park (Active) Oak and Maple Streets - West Ambler
 Opened in July of 1995, this small tot lot play area was designed for small children up to age 10. Swings, see-saws, spring animals and a multi-use play structure provide hours of enjoyment for area youngsters.
West Side Courts (Active) Mt. Pleasant and Maple Avenues- West Ambler
 Opened in the fall of 1997, this basketball court provides area youth with the opportunity to play ball outdoors. Two half courts have been constructed to get the maximum play out of this small area.
Erbs Mill Park (1.28 acres Passive) Erbs Mill Road and Thayer Drive - Southwest Side of the Township)
 The Township is currently involved in renovations to this tract of open space. Several evergreen trees have been transplanted in this park with several varieties of shade trees yet to come. Installation of park benches, trash receptacles and appropriate signage will round out this project.
Armentrout Reserve (37.41 acres - Passive) Beale Road off Penllyn- Blue Bell Pike
 This beautiful tract of natural open space land was acquired in 1997 with grant money from the Montgomery County Open Space Program. Combined with several adjoining acres, acquired by the Wissahickon Valley Watershed, this impressive open space has both wooded and farm land features. The Township plans to maintain this reserve as a natural area for years to come.
Prophecy Creek Park (82.5 acres -
Passive) 205 Skippack Pike

This property was dedicated on October 21, 2000 as part of the 300th Anniversary celebration. This magnificent open space parcel features rolling meadows, pristine ponds, and an array of natural deciduous and evergreen trees. The Prophecy Creek meanders through the center of the park connecting to the Wissahickon. The estate house and barn complete the property. Prophecy Creek Park is open from dawn to dusk. Residents are encouraged to visit and enjoy the natural beauty and serenity of this newly opened park.

Stony Creek Sports Park
 North Wales Road (1/2 mile south of Morris Road)
 Formerly known as the Marino Tract. This new park formally opens to the public on April 13, 2002 with a grand opening planned from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Facilities currently available at the park include a full size in-line skating rink with dasher boards, a junior size rink surface and a parking lot. Planned in Phase 2 will be the dasher boards for the junior rink, lights on both rinks, a playground and a full size athletic filed for youth football, soccer, etc.
