| Georgette Jacob- Animal Control Officer The Whitpain Township Police Department manages and enforces the animal control function for our community. They provide programs to educate citizens regarding responsible pet ownership; they provide for the sanitary, safe, and humane housing for impounded animals and they enforce animal control ordinances relating to the leash law, scoop law, nuisance-barking, vicious animals, and cruelty to animals.
Recently our Police Department has received several complaints regarding dogs running-at-large. Pennsylvania Dog Law Act 225 states that all dogs must be under control. This means that when your dog is not on your property, it must be under that direct control of you or a handler. The best way to control your dog is with a leash. Remember, dogs are personal property. The owner(s) are responsible for any damage caused by their dog while it is running-at-large. Violations could result in a maximum fine of $300.00. Third and subsequent offenses are misdemeanor violations.
Also, owners of barking dogs that are causing a nuisance can be fined for violating
Whitpain Township Ordinance #126 (Disturbing the Peace).
Suspected violations and/or inquiries regarding the animal control law can be directed to the Whitpain Township Police Department at (610) 279-9033.
Pet Owners: Please be a responsible neighbor; keep your dog under control!
