Throughout Whitpain’s woodlands, deer are having a significant impact on the future and sustainability of the forests due to unchecked browsing on the next generation of tree saplings. Gone will be all the beneficial ecosystem services that trees and woodlands provide.
As the deer browse, they eliminate any future canopy replacement trees. The lower level of the forest will be gone and the song birds and beneficial insects that once lived there disappear. Through this process, our forests are slowly vanishing, undetectable to the eye, but declining steadily over the years.
Help support improving our Township’s trees and woodlands by planting native trees, and supporting the mission of the Shade Tree Commission.
