After 29 years as Parks and Recreation Director, Kurt Baker is calling it a career.
Family, friends, and staff members joined the Board of Supervisors at Tuesday’s board meeting to congratulate Kurt on his long career in Whitpain.
When Kurt started in 1994, Wentz Run Park was just completed and during his tenure the park system expanded rapidly and now includes 752.39 acres of parks, preserves, open space and permanently protected preserves, as well as 12.5 miles of trails.
“Kurt left an indelible imprint on our park and trail system, but this is only a small fraction of his numerous accomplishments,” said Township Manager Roman Pronczak. “He was instrumental in developing our Harvest Festival, now known as the Community Festival, our successful summer camp program, two Revolutionary War Reenactments, our summer concert and movie series, and much more.”
His contributions were felt beyond Whitpain’s borders as Kurt has served as President of the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society (PRPS), co-chaired the annual PRPS conference, co-chaired the Montgomery County Senior Games and chaired the PA Youth Sports Panel.
The Township wishes Kurt well on his much-deserved retirement.
