The Montgomery County Commissioners last week awarded a Montco 2040 grant to Whitpain Township. The $183,308 grant will be used to provide improved pedestrian connections and associated signage between the existing trail system and Wentz Run Park.
“This is another important step in improving our trail system,” said Parks and Recreation Director Kurt Baker. “Over the last few years, we have seen a surge in park and trail usage and the Supervisors and Park and Open Space Board remain committed to continual upgrades and expansion of our trail network.”
Montgomery County awarded grants to 18 municipalities, totaling $2,500,000. Projects were evaluated in terms of impact, equity, county and local planning consistency, project readiness, and funding attributes by a committee made up of planning commission board members and interdepartmental county staff.
Projects were also given heightened consideration when addressing one of three focus categories for 2022: Walk Montco and Bike Montco – Trails, Paths, Sidewalk Connections and Bike Facilities; Downtown and Community Destination Support; or Adaptation and Resiliency.
