The Township hosted its 24th Annual Earth Day celebration today at the Manor House at Prophecy Creek Park.
More than 100 elementary school students from Shady Grove, Stony Creek, Blue Bell, Lower Gwynedd, Holy Rosary and St. Helena's schools were recognized for their environmentally-focused art work and poetry. After the ceremony, children participated in a variety of environmentally focused activities.
As part of the celebration, the Arbor Day Foundation named the Township a Tree City USA for the 24th consecutive year. Additionally, The Township received a Tree City USA Growth Award for demonstrating environmental improvement and a higher level of tree care.
Whitpain is the longest running recipient of the growth award in Pennsylvania, having won this honor for 20 consecutive years. As of 2018, there were only eight Growth Award Recipients in the state.
